FAQs
1 General FAQs
1.1 When is the best time to purchase my textbooks?

It is best to get your books early, to ensure you get all your books, and you can purchase any used copies of your textbooks. Ideally, come in mid-August for the Fall semester and December for the Winter semester.

1.2 How do I find out what books I need?

Refer to the booklist located under Customer Service at the bottom of the Lions' Store website. We will refresh it if any changes occur.

Your professor also includes the required textbooks in your class syllabus. Check Moodle to see if your professor has posted the syllabus.

1.3 What information should I bring with me when purchasing my textbooks at the Lions' Store?

Please bring your booklist with you. The textbooks are organized by course code (ex. ACC 100), so you will need to know the course codes of your classes and the book titles.

1.4 How can I pay for my textbooks at the Lions' Store?

You can purchase the textbooks in-store with a debit or credit card, or you can order and pay online with your credit card.

2 Textbook FAQs
2.1 What if there is no listing for my course?

If your department or course isn’t listed, it usually means that we haven’t received a textbook order from your instructor. Please refer to your syllabus or go to your first class to check whether a textbook is required.

2.2 How do I find my textbooks in the Ambrose Lions' Store?

Textbooks are arranged alphabetically by the course abbreviation and then numerically by course number (ex. BIO 105).

There are signs on the shelves to help you locate your book.

2.3 What if the shelf is empty?

If it is before classes start, it is likely the material has not yet arrived. However, we may have sold out of the textbook. Check our stock online, or ask in store.

2.4 If I need to return a book, what can I do?

You may return your textbooks with the original receipt and original method of payment for a refund by the add/drop date of each semester. Spring textbooks are always final sale. There are some items that are non-refundable.

Please refer to our Textbook Return Policy

2.5 Why aren’t my textbooks here by the first day of class?

Firstly, we commend you on your organizational skills! In a normal world, there are many possibilities: the publisher is out of stock, the publisher does not have Canadian rights, the Lions' Store received a late order from the department or professor, enrolment was increased or classes added after we ordered, among other reasons. When there is a delay, we make every effort to get more copies for you as quickly as possible.

With COVID, many publishers have closed or are operating extremely short-staffed, so they are delayed in fulfilling our order. Books from the US or UK also have been quarantined at the border for about 7 days, further delaying the process. We will try to keep professors updated on the status of their textbooks so they can inform you when your course books are in.

2.6 Why is the cost so high... aren’t they just like other books?

Textbooks are different from general books because of the information they contain and the limited market they serve. Publishers set a price, and the Lions' Store needs to keep our retail as close to that price as possible, while remaining competitive with other retailers. We try to offer as many economical options as we can, including used textbooks and eBooks.

2.7 How do I find eBooks in the Lions' Store?

Ebooks may be purchased at the cashier or on the bookstore website. the Ebook is available on the shelf under the Course Number. Take a sheet and pay for it with the cashier where you will receive the Ticket # to be used on Moodle to verify your purchase.

This list is not comprehensive, nor binding.
